I've received a lot of interesting comments and questions from Sudoku fans over the last few years and this page
is where I try to answer them. I'm also directing Str8ts feedback here. Please feel free to drop me a note on the side of the page. Or you can email me directly at andrew@str8ts.com.

Hey there,
for many years I'm a true fan of your site. The last update however, is not compatible with safari - what a pity. I hope you'll fix this soon?

Hi, thanks for many years of puzzle fun. Would it be possible to add the same settings the daily str8ts has into the daily Sudoku as well? As someone mostly using the keyboard for solving, it is very difficult to control now with just the numpad on the side. Thanks!
Andrew Stuart writes:
The same settings do exist. Use the new cog icon. However these settings don't travel across domains - so you need to set your settings on each site separately. Should work, email me if not

The solution display page is displayed out of my monitor screen to the right of the main page and therefore not visible. It used to show as a separate tab on the browser web page. What happened to this option?
Andrew Stuart writes:
I thought I should check before replying because why not use the horizontal scroll bar. So I checked and turns out the type of DIV I was using didn’t trigger it – so yes it is inaccessible if your screen is too narrow. Bit of an oversight. Refresh [CRTL]+[F5] and tell me if you can at least see the new blue button. If so, this will move it over to the left. If not will have to use an @media and put it there.

Not a bug but a question: Do you ever plan on adding custom/arbitrary box shapes to the jigsaw sudoku solver, similar to the amount of flexibility of the killer sudoku solver?
Andrew Stuart writes:
Yes I do. It has been creeping up my job queue forever but I think I'm ready to tackle it now. Watch this space!

Andrew You have a new bug in the KenKen. Source of puzzle Sydney Morning Herald dated 12 June 2024. As I am using a tablet and start each time with a cleared cache. The following message should not apply.

Ugh! Fixed. Going to be 2.19 later today. Will make sure I test them all

Hallo Andrew, It's not a bug, just a suggestion. Could you set the focus or whatever in the 'Solution Count' popup, so that it closes just by hitting 'enter', without having to (1) select the 'close' button, then (2) hit enter? TIA, Paul
Andrew Stuart writes:
Good idea, done that. [CRTL]+[F5] to refresh Also on email popup

Why aren't you giving yesterday's Str8ts solutions anymore? On the Daily Str8ts page, you give solutions for one of the puzzles that day, but not the other.
Andrew Stuart writes:
Will be putting those back. Plan is to move them out of the player and onto the page.

Hello,
I would like to clarify several points on Exotic Links as I keep having issues with incorrect deletions.
1) Are they applicable to continuous loops? 2) Are they applicable to forcing chains? 3) Can deletions be made to *any* candidates in the "rectangle" that makes up the Exotic Link?
I am leaning towards "no" being the answer to all three questions ....
Thanks,
Tim
Andrew Stuart writes:
1) Yes. Should be examples. 2) Yes. 3) No. Always a good idea to distinguish between the candidates that make up a pattern and the candidates for elimination. So don't remove any that are necessary for the link. The exception is of course the ends of the chains for discontinuities.

Using the keyboard input on my computer. If I pause, but do not dismiss pop up resume box, the timer remains frozen. Timer does not restart while entering pencil marks or cell numbers.
Andrew Stuart writes:
Fixed. Yes, not clicking the actual message box caused odd behaviour.

Hi Andrew. I LOVE the new number pad input feature on the daily str8ts! I wish all the puzzles had that. I have always appreciated it on the Killer. Just so you know, the pause on the timer function isn't actually pausing on that puzzle now. It says it is, but continues to count. Of course that does not interfere with actually doing the puzzle, just thought you'd want to know. Thanks
Andrew Stuart writes:
Good catch Charp, thank-you. Fixed now. I will be rolling the new number pad option to all the other puzzles, so look out for that. Cheers
